planting tamarind.

hi.. i read alot about bonsai so i thout of giving it a try.. searched many sites and blogs about it. and i came to know that tamarind makes a good bonsai.. i had some seed of tamarind at home. so heres how i did this...
1) take some tamarind seed. you can buy tamarind seeds or whole tamarind from the shop.


2)than soak them in a water. do not heat the water. just plain water.

3)keep them soaked for about 24- 48 hours. some of the seeds will lose their outer cover. and some more resistant seeds may remain like that. you can keep them soaked untill they loose their outer covering.(other wise its ok. seeds are ready to plant.)

4)prepare a soil.tamarind likes well draining soil. i took 2 parts of regular soil, 1 part of cowdung manure(you can take compost also, or chemical ferilisers but i prefer organic fertilisers.),and 1 part brik powder( its a great idea to use it.. it gives porosity to your soil).

5)put seeds 1/2 inch below the soil by making holes in it by finger. and cover them.

6)water it. dont pour the water all over it. soil will be washed away.. gently soak the soil. and keep it moist by regularly watering it..

7)wait and watch.. within 10 days seeds will germinate and come out of the soil..they actually look really beautifull.




8)they will grow nicely.water them daily.use fertilisers every 15 or 30 days.i use cow dung manure.readily awailable.


9)now the plant is around 3 and half month old.its happy and healthy. i pruned its top twice to enhance growth of branches. its too thin also. but any ways its baby.
i actully want it to grow really fast.. but i know its not possible.. so.. i just have to wait and wait and wait...

bonsai...

bonsai.. its a great art form.. not because one makes a good plant sculpture but also because you feel close to nature.. (ofcorse torture for the plant...). its actually an art of training the plant to grow in the controlled conditions. many peoples belive that its just a big trees which could be grown like this but any plant having woody trunk could be grown like this..

i was so fascinated by this art form in the past few days .. i decide to do it.. so i chose my victim.. i chose chilly plant.. which was there in my home since last 1 year.. so i took it out of its old and big pot and transfered in to the new shallow pot. and covered the roots with a mixture of regular potting soil and gravel made from the smashed brik( i 'd read somewhere, that if u dont have the gravelled sand u can use the smashed brik..!!!) . than decoreted the pot with some stones. i also trimmed the plant a bit. removed dead leaves and branches. pinched out some bigger leaves. and kept it in the window sill. i have kept it in the shade of other bigger plants. it has been like 15 days i have done that and the plant is doing well. u can see the picture above.

next i am thinking of tryin my hands on tamarind tree.. it makes a great bonsai.. but takes hell lot of time but lets try.. ill be postin about it soon.. thank you.
